It’s nearly “lights out and away we go” for the very first Newbury BID Krazy Races Soapbox Derby – coming to Newbury on Sunday, 24th August 2025!
Join thousands of spectators from Newbury and beyond as we cheer on the crazy, wacky, and utterly outrageous soapbox racers at this brand new event, proudly brought to you by Newbury Business Improvement District and Visit Newbury as a spiritual successor to the much-missed Crafty Craft race.
The event runs from 10:45am to 5pm and the action-packed course will see homemade soapbox carts race from the Strawberry Hill / Old Bath Road roundabout, sweep down Oxford Street, and fly across the finish line near the Clock Tower on The Broadway.

Spectators will be able to catch all the action from the roadside or via a giant screen by the Clock Tower as teams tackle the course across three timed runs. The top 10 teams will then race again in a final shootout to be crowned the very first Newbury BID Krazy Races Champion.
There will also be prizes for categories like Best Dressed, Most Entertaining Team, and Best Soapbox Design – so there’s plenty of opportunity for teams to be recognised for all the creativity and effort they’ve put in.
Away from the track, visitors can meet the teams as they explore the Pit Area on Northbrook Street, shop with event traders, enjoy town centre food and drink, and soak up the brilliant atmosphere around the town.
The event is also proud to support headline charity partner Daisy’s Dream, who provide invaluable support for children and families facing bereavement and were selected by public vote earlier this year.

- 11:00 – Morning Racing
- 13:00 – Lunch Break
- 14:00 – Afternoon Racing
- 15:30 – Third Run
- 16:00 – Final Race for the Top 10 fastest
- 16:30 – Prize Giving & Awards
- 17:00 – Event Closes
