Newbury Town Council, in collaboration with local partners, is proud to announce a series of events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day), marking this pivotal moment in history with a programme of activities that honour those who contributed to the end of the Second World War.
The events, taking place from May 8th to May 10th, will bring the community together to remember, reflect, and celebrate the legacy of those who served.
Thursday May 8th: VE Day 80 Commemorations
At 11am, a service will be held at Newbury’s War Memorial to pay respects to the brave individuals who fought and sacrificed for freedom.
Fair Close Day Centre will be hosting a special VE Day Celebration lunch for over 65’s. Enjoy entertainment and fish and chips to celebrate the spirit of VE Day. Booking essential on 01635 40488 or email hello@fairclosecentre.org .
From 7pm, bring a picnic and join us in Victoria Park for a Beacon Lighting ceremony. As the beacon is lit at 9:30pm, the community will reflect on the significance of VE Day, a symbol of hope, peace, and unity. Music and speeches will accompany the ceremony, with everyone invited to participate in this moment of national commemoration.
