Explore the fascinating history of Newbury through a series of walks taking place throughout the summer.

The walks are led by local history experts providing commentary and answering questions as the walk proceeds. The pace is leisurely and the ground level.

Each walk lasts approximately 2 hours and starts at the Corn Exchange in the Market Place – aside from the First Battle of Newbury walk which lasts 2 hours 30 minutes and starts at the Bowlers Arms in Wash Common.

There will be a maximum of 15 people on each walk. The walks program and leaders are as follows:

  • Tuesday 21st July: A History of Newbury, Philip Wood
  • Tuesday 28th July: Northbrook Street People, Jane Burrell
  • Tuesday 4th August: Lost Pubs of Newbury (not suitable for children under 12), Philip Wood
  • Tuesday 11th August: Newbury at War, Jane Burrell
  • Tuesday 18th August: Northbrook St & Speenhamland, David Peacock
  • Tuesday 25th August: Tudor Newbury, David Peacock
  • Tuesday 1st September: First Battle of Newbury, Dave Stubbs
