Just a short walk from both Newbury train station and Market Place, The Old Library is a beautifully restored creative venue run by Corn Exchange Newbury, combining a 94-seat studio theatre, Café Bar and a seasonal programme of courses, workshops and events.

Originally a Carnegie Library, the building was opened in 1905/1906. Built with money donated by Scottish American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, it operated as Newbury Library until 2000, so for almost 100 years formed an important part of the social fabric of our town.

The venue reopened in March 2026 following significant investment and redevelopment, transforming it to become a new arts hub for Newbury and bringing this much-loved local heritage building back into use by the community.
