National Cycle Route 4

This 433.6 mile long cycling route stretching from London’s Greenwich in the east to the Welsh town of Fishguard in the west passes right through the heart of Newbury town centre. You can pick it up as it crosses over Northbrook Street and either head down alongside Costa to join the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath towards London, or follow the alleyway between Cote Brasserie and The Cutting Bar to travel west towards Wales.
Much of the section of the route local to Newbury takes you along the towpath and is a fantastic way to experience this beautiful part of the world. There are plenty of railway stations along the way, which make it easy to enjoy small sections of the route from Newbury and then head back to the town centre via train when you’re ready to rest.
