Volunteers team up for the first Community Clean-Up of 2025

Over 40 volunteers from local businesses joined forces with Newbury BID for the first Community Clean-Up of the year on Thursday, 20th March.

On the first official day of Spring, volunteers headed out into the sunny streets of Newbury town centre to give the space a loving spring clean ahead of the inaugural Antiques & Vintage Street Market organised by Newbury BID and ACVR Events.

The volunteers focused their efforts on the Kennet & Avon Canal footpath and Toomers Wharf, clearing up litter and leaves. Along Northbrook Street old flyers and cable ties were cleared from lampposts, and public waste bins were given a healthy scrub and left glistening in the sunshine.

Newbury BID would like to thank all the volunteers for taking time out of their day to help brighten up the town centre. Volunteers joined from:

  • Newbury Building Society
  • Newbury College
  • Howden Insurance
  • Newbury Rotary Club
  • Berkshire Youth & The Waterside Centre
  • Vodafone
  • West Berkshire Council
  • Cow & Cask
  • The Catherine Wheel
  • Lettings Professionals

The community interest group also extends its thanks to West Berkshire Council for providing cleaning equipment free of charge and assisting with the disposal of 51 black bags of rubbish collected by the team.

The next Community Clean-Up is scheduled for Thursday, 18th September. If you would like to join the volunteers to help keep the town looking its best, please email info@newburybid.com.
