Welcome to Newbury’s Christmas Lights Switch-On Festival 2023 taking place in Newbury Town Centre from 10am – 6pm on Saturday 18 November 2023. Join us as we kick-off Christmas celebrations in the heart of Newbury in preparation for the big lights switch-on at 6pm in the Market Place!

With FREE workshops and activities for all to enjoy, meet and greet sessions with Anna, Elsa and Olaf, Santa Claus and his Grotto, a Living Nativity and live music and performance hubs, we hope you and the whole family can enjoy being together for one truly magical day in our idyllic market town. Whilst you explore our Christmas Light’s Switch On Festival, take a wander through our Christmas Market full of wonderful foodie delights, Christmas Gifts and much more.

A DAY FOR ALL THE FAMILY
Arts and crafts fun for all the family! Make and take some festive themed creations!
Make sure you get your Christmas wishes in early, pay a visit to Santa at his Grotto. Santa will be at his Grotto in The Kennet Centre between 12pm and 5pm, he will be handing out sweets to all the children who come to see him.
Experience the true story of Christmas by visiting our Living Nativity Animal Farm. The live nativity will be available to visit between 12pm and 4pm in Inches Yard.
Do you want to build a snowman? … Meet your favourite Princesses Anna and Elsa at The Waterside Centre between 2pm and 4pm.
Delight in these spectacular lantern-like illuminations, part mystical spirit, they will be roaming the streets at dusk, accompanied by music.
Explore a charming all-day market on Northbrook Street, 10am until 6pm, perfect for holiday shopping, and a funfair on Bartholomew Street.
Whether visiting the Christmas Market or enjoying music at the main stage in The Market Place, enjoy lots of festive treats, there are lots of street food vendors and stall holders.
From 12pm Newbury’s town centre will be filled with song throughout the day with many musical acts, choirs and performances. You can find the full schedule in the programme. The main event! Help us unwrap Christmas in Newbury by kicking off the Festive Season with the light switch on, there will be choirs and live performances, all building up to the BIG countdown to Newbury’s stunning illuminations.
