Join us on Saturday 14th November as we light up Newbury ready for the festive season.
The Christmas Lights Switch On is one of the highlights of the year in Newbury, bringing the community together for a full day of free, family-friendly entertainment, live music, festive activities and plenty of Christmas cheer. There will be plenty to enjoy throughout the day before we come together for the big moment when Newbury’s Christmas lights are switched on in the evening.
It’s a lovely opportunity to get together with friends and family, enjoy the atmosphere in the town centre and start getting into the Christmas spirit. Keep reading to find out what’s happening throughout the day, including the full entertainment schedule, music line-up and event map.

A Day Full of Festive Fun
There’s plenty to enjoy throughout the day, with Newbury town centre filled with festive entertainment from 9am.
Browse seasonal stalls at the Charter Market and gift fairs, enjoy live music and performances across Newbury town centre, or make time for some family favourites, including the Nativity Petting Farm and Festive Funfair. Santa’s Grotto will also have a brand-new home at the Waterside Centre this year, in partnership with Berkshire Youth and Newbury Lions.
With lots to see and do before we gather in Market Place for the big Christmas Lights Switch On at 6:30pm, it’s a great way to spend a festive day out in Newbury.
Live Music Across the Town Centre
Get into the festive spirit with live music and performances from local artists, choirs, and community groups throughout the day. With multiple performance areas around the town centre this year, you’ll never be far from the action, so you can enjoy a day out in Newbury to a beautiful backdrop of music, ranging from classic carols to upbeat covers, performed by talented musicians of all ages.
