The BID delivers a fantastic range of projects proposed by, voted for, and funded by local businesses as part of the BID’s Second Term Business Plan. These projects focus on four key areas and we deliver them to help us work towards two overarching objectives:


Increasing visitor footfall and engagement with town centre businesses through positioning and promotion of the Visit Newbury brand


Increasing business investment in Newbury and supporting existing and new businesses to thrive in the town

The four key projects areas are Marketing & Promotion, Attractive Town Centre, Out & About, and Business Support & Income. Some of the main projects in each of these areas are outlined below.


Visit Newbury Privacy Policy

Establishing and growing the Visit Newbury brand through clear and compelling storytelling via digital and physical marketing, evidenced with measurable results

Newbury BID News

Delivering a PR and communications strategy to promote Newbury and our town centre projects to local, regional and national audiences

Creating advertising and promotional opportunities for local businesses, including free social media promotions to our 19k+ following and via the Visit Newbury website

Sponsoring key town centre events and competitions in partnership with other town centre stakeholders


BID Projects Grimebusting

Delivering a Grimebusting scheme for deep cleaning of the town centre, including chewing gum and graffiti removal

Weavers Walk Newbury

Working with local authorities and key stakeholders to improve the visual appearance of the town centre and vacant units, whilst working to increase occupancy by attracting new businesses to the town

Liaising with retailers, charities, and authorities to manage the appearance of shop fronts and eradicate fly-tipping

Christmas at The Clocktower

Managing seasonal decorations, including bunting during the summer months and a Christmas tree and lights during the festive season


Delivering a Town Ranger scheme to (1) provide on-hand assistance to businesses, (2) provide a concierge service to welcome town centre visitors, and (3) work with Thames Valley Police to minimise anti-social behaviour and criminal activity

Newbury Artisan Market

Managing buskers, pedlars, charity collectors, and commercial trading within the town, including hiring out commercial spaces in Northbrook Street, Bartholomew Street and the Market Place for promotions and events

Enjoy Newbury Events

Delivering and managing events and specialist markets, including a monthly Artisan Market, annual Vegan Market, the annual Christmas Lights Switch-On and Crafty Craft events, and seasonal trails


Undertaking quarterly one-to-one business visits to listen, consult with and advise, and lobbying to represent businesses’ voices and views on key town centre matters

Providing free training and webinars on a variety of topics, e.g. public heath guidance delivered in partnership with the Public Protection Partnership, marketing strategy training, and Q&A sessions with key experts

Providing weekly business communications via email to keep businesses informed about relevant town centre news

Managing the town centre’s CCTV provision and crime reduction scheme

We also develop and deliver initiatives to generate additional commercial revenue to supplement BID projects.
