Vote for our Family Fun Days in ‘Best Local Family Friendly Event’

Vote-For-Us-Post-2022-Sponsored

We’ve made it to the finals of the Little Ankle Biter 2022 Awards in the ‘Best Local Family Friendly Event’ category for their Family Fun Days, held in Newbury last summer.

The three day-long events took place for free across Newbury town centre on Wednesday 28th July, Wednesday 11th August, and Tuesday 24th August last year. We enlisted award-winning children’s entertainment company, Jollypop Entertainment, to deliver showstopping musical performances, meet-and-greets, and storytelling for the town, posing as some of the most popular fairytale princesses, superheroes, and children’s storybook characters.

Each Family Fun Day rotated around three key locations across town to give every child the opportunity to see their favourite character in action. Performances were stationed at Kennet Shopping Centre, Parkway Shopping, and the Market Place, where children’s rides were also situated alongside a range of free arts and crafts workshops and activities, delivered by local creative organisations, The Ugly Duckling, the Corn Exchange, and City Arts. In addition to this, we arranged for balloon-modellers to distribute free themed balloons to children attending the event.

Newbury’s Family Fun Days were hugely popular among visitors, local residents and town centre businesses alike, as each day successfully delivered some much-needed cheer to the town after a year of limited activity. Visitors from across the region turned up rain or shine to meet their favourite characters, with the fairytale princesses proving to be the most popular of the three days.

We’re up against four Berkshire-based businesses for the award and voting is open until 23:59 on Friday 11th March. To cast your vote, please click here.

Alison Drummond, our Operations Manager, said:

We’re confident EasterFest will be welcomed with open arms by local businesses and residents alike after delivering a successful three-day Victorian Fayre over the Christmas period last year, which drew in over 90,000 visitors to the town centre. The event is being delivered in partnership with market operators, LSD Promotions, who are the market operators for not only Newbury’s Artisan Market, but the Victorian Christmas Fayre and last year’s one-day Food and Drink Festival.

We’re inviting any traders who would be interested in having a stall at this first-of-its-kind event in Newbury to get in touch with market operators, LSD Promotions, by clicking here

In addition to this Mad Hatter-inspired event, we’re is also collaborating with local charity, Swings and Smiles, to deliver a two-week Easter Egg Hunt over the holidays from Saturday 9th –Sunday 24th April. There will be prizes to be won, with all proceeds from the hunt going to charity. More information will be available online on the events section of our website.

Alison Drummond, Newbury BID’s Operations Manager, states:

We’re delighted to have made it to the finals of this family-focused award. Delivering events that not only enhance visitor experience but benefit our town centre and the local business community is at the heart of what we do. To be recognised for this is an achievement in itself and something we are immensely proud of.

If you attended any of our free Family Fun Days and enjoyed yourselves as much as we did, please vote for us so we can continue to put on inclusive events such as these in the future- providing we are re-elected in our upcoming BID Renewal Ballot!

We’re committed to making Newbury a great place to live, work, visit, and do business. If you run a levy-paying business, your YES vote can help to secure five more years of funding to retain the BID team and deliver events such as these. All the information you need about when and how to vote is available here.
