Visit Newbury’s Summer Series- The Ultimate Events

Seven music acts, four classic children’s characters, three Sundays of live music, and two Family Fun Days down; Newbury’s free, open-air Summer Series of Events will soon come to an end, as only two of the seven events remain.

Last week’s events, Fairytale Princesses Family Fun Day, and world-famous Disco Shed- Newbury Debut, were undoubtedly the most successful events in the series yet.

Many families stayed for the entire Family Fun Day on Wednesday 11th August, to watch all three princess performances at each respective site: the Market Place, Kennet Shopping and Parkway Shopping. On Sunday 15th August, Disco Shed managed to acquire a crowd of dancers throughout their day-long DJ set in the Market Place.

With this in mind, we’re feeling even more confident that their next events will achieve similar success and hopefully bring even more visitors into the town centre to enjoy the free fun.

The next and ultimate events in the series are the Superhero Training Family Fun Day, which will take place across the town centre on Tuesday 24th August from 10am to 5pm, and Summer Series of Events: Grand Finale, which will be an extension of previous live music Sundays, spanning from 12 noon to 8pm on Sunday 29th August, alongside Newbury Artisan Market.

The eponymous Superhero Training Family Fun Day will bring Captain America and Spiderman into Newbury town centre to demonstrate tricks and teach budding superheroes how to defeat villains and save the world! Starting at 10am in the Kennet Centre, the first training begins at 10:30am in-between a series of meet and greets, with further training taking place at 12 noon at Parkway Shopping and 3:30pm in the Market Place. Superhero parades will also be taking place as the characters re-locate to venues across the town centre, with an expert balloon modeller giving away free balloons, and funfair rides available at a small charge for children in the Market Place.

In addition, local family favourite, The Ugly Duckling, and popular theatre venue, the Corn Exchange, will be providing free activities in the Market Place for both parent and child to enjoy. All events and activities, bar the funfair rides, are completely free courtesy of us, your BID!

And it doesn’t stop there! We’ve pulled out all the stops to bring to you a spectacular Grand Finale: ‘Big Band Day’. The day will host 24 performers from nine different artists and bands on a raised platform stage over the course of the day. Newbury’s growing and increasingly popular Artisan Market will also line the historic streets from 10am to 4pm, tying up the end of the Summer Series with a buzzing, full and vibrant town centre offering.

Alison Drummond, our Operations Managersaid:

It’s been promising to see a steady increase of visitors to each of our events throughout our Summer Series, perhaps to be expected, given last week’s events were the first where we’ve experienced little to no rain.

We hope that whatever the weather, Newbury residents and visitors will come along to enjoy a fantastic meal out at one of the local venues and join in with the fun at our ultimate events. We feel so thankful we’ve been able to deliver these in the town centre after over a year of inactivity- and all for the general public to enjoy for free!

Dates for your diary:

Summer Series of Events: Grand Finale- Sunday 29th August, 12 noon – 8pm.

Family Fun Days, 10am – 5pm: Superhero Training- Tuesday 24th August.
