Jack and the Beans Talk is a cautionary tale about what might happen if you throw things out of the window! \nJack lives on a small farm with his mum and very little to eat. He likes to talk to the birds\, his cow and anyone who will listen. Imagine his surprise when he swaps his cow for some magic beans and starts to hear a whispering in the breeze and a giant rumble in the sky. \nThere are performances at 11am (booking link) and 1pm (booking link)\, each lasting 45 minutes – with time at the end to show puppets and answer any questions from the public. \nSuitable 3-7 years but younger and older children are welcome. You also have the option of adding a drinks reception to follow your ceremony for up to 100 people. Drinks are served in the Chandos Room which is beautifully decorated to replicate the 18th century dining room\, originally created by the Duke of Chandos. You can then have more wedding photos taken in the Grade II listed grounds whilst guests enjoy their drinks. \nThis fair will have around 40 wedding suppliers in attendance and will suit couples marrying at any location in and around the Berkshire area. DESCRIPTION:A Symphony of horrors – The silent masterpiece with a brand-new live score. \nHaving recently come to a new generation thanks to Robert Eggers’ recent remake\, Nosferatu (1922) is arguably the film that gave birth to the horror genre. Notable as the first cinematic interpretation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula\, its combination of expressionistic acting and unforgettable images renders it just as powerful and unsettling today as when it first thrilled cinema goers 100 years ago. \nChris Green’s new score was commissioned by English Heritage for a live outdoor screening of the film at Dracula’s spiritual home of Whitby Abbey. The music is a haunting blend of electronic and acoustic instruments performed liveby the composer and combined with FW Murnau’s iconic images makes for a genuinely remarkable and unique cinematic experience. \nBBFC film rating PG (although not suitable for very young children). \n90 minutes plus 20-minute interval. DESCRIPTION:Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all free. \nJoin Shaw House in the Great Hall for introductory talks about the history of the House throughout the day (no need to book) and then explore the House\, exhibition rooms and our historic costume exhibition ‘Dressed for Shaw’ and the English Civil War arms and armoury exhibition ‘Dressed for Battle’. \nVisitors can also pre-book to visit to the Elizabethan bake house which was discovered during restoration and is one of the very special features of Shaw House. Public access is not usually possible due to its location below the café but during the open days you will have the chance to climb below the ground floor and discover the well preserved elements of the 16th century kitchen. \nShaw House\, café and grounds will be open from 11am – 4pm\, with talks about the history of the House throughout the day.
