ON SATURDAY 19TH DECEMBER, THE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED THAT NEWBURY WILL BE PLACED IN A NEW TIER 4, WITH RESTRICTIONS ALMOST EQUIVILANT TO THOSE IN PLACE DURING THE SECOND NATIONAL LOCKDOWN.
Much of the South East, East of England and the whole of London are now subject to this new tier 4.
Not only do these new restrictions outline that no mixing is permitted on Christmas Day, but that trading for non-essential retailers, personal care services such as hairdressers, barbers and beauty salons, and indoor leisure facilities such as gyms, must temporarily cease.
This is yet another devastating blow for not only businesses that have worked tirelessly to create a safe environment for you to visit, but also for residents who are now unable to finish their last minute Christmas shopping as planned.
However, rest assured! Since the first set of national restrictions, many ‘non-essential’ businesses have positively adapted to become more digitally focused, meaning many of your favourite local businesses have e-commerce, delivery and click and collect options available.
While it mightn’t be the festive shopping experience that we had our fingers (and toes!) crossed for, these digital capabilities allow you to continue shopping at your favourite high-street stores during the festive period and beyond.
