We’re delighted to share that the return of Newbury’s Artisan Market was a huge success.
On Sunday 30th May, Newbury town centre experienced its busiest Sunday since Sunday 8th March 2020, before the pandemic started. We’re thrilled to reveal that footfall was up by 16.2% on the previous Sunday, seeing over 15,000 residents from across West Berkshire and beyond visit the town town centre.
Many stalls sold out of stock completely by early afternoon, allowing some traders to explore the market for themselves until the event closed at 4pm. One stall, selling traditional Austrian meatballs, was closed for business by 2pm, as it proved to be a particularly popular choice among visitors.
One trader, Judy Hicks, from Hampshire Gluten Free based in Burghclere near Newbury, expressed her enthusiasm for the market’s return:
It was fantastic to be back in Newbury after what feels like a very long time. The weather was on-side and people generally just seemed happy to be back taking advantage of all the local produce on offer. The event was expertly organised, and I’d like to thank Newbury BID and the new operators, LSD Promotions, for their commitment to this.
Alison Drummond, our Operations Manager, says:
We were delighted to see such significant footfall in Newbury town centre as a result of our Artisan Market returning. We’re confident our upcoming markets on the last Sunday of every month will increasingly benefit Newbury town centre, as we’re experiencing an influx of interest from traders all the time.
The Newbury Artisan Market will take place for the remainder of the year on the following dates: 27th June, 25th July, 29th August, 26th September, 31st October, and 28th November.
