DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday 22nd October\, Newbury will join towns and cities across the UK in a mass “Glow Ride” as part of Cycling UK’s ‘My Ride. Our Right.’ campaign. The event highlights the need for safer streets and better cycling infrastructure\, especially for women riding after dark. \n​Three local cycling clubs – Newbury Road Club\, Newbury Velo and West Berkshire Spokes – are working together to bring the event to the town. Women cyclists of all abilities are invited to take part in a two-mile ride around Newbury Town Centre and Victoria Park\, helping to “light up the night” while calling for change. \n​Meet at Newbury Market Place from 6.30pm\, dress brightly\, decorate your bike and help light up the night! \nFree to join – but please RSVP via the link below: \nEvent Details \n\nRoute: A fun\, circular 2-mile ride around Newbury Town Centre and Victoria Park\nWho’s it for? DESCRIPTION:The Newbury Road Club centenary exhibition is underway at the West Berkshire Museum\, but cycle clubs have been busy in Newbury for many more years. \nDr David Portwood has been a club cyclist for nearly fifty years and a member of Newbury Road Club for over thirty. The last few years Dave has been researching the history of cycle clubs in Newbury as part of the centenary celebrations of the club in 2025. \nThis talk will give a short history of cycling clubs in Newbury with particular emphasis on the Newbury Road Club from its formation by the Bance brothers to the active and busy club it is today. \nEntry to the museum and the talk are free\, but you are requested to pre-book your seats via the link below. \nBookings close at 4pm the day before the talk.
