Newbury Vegan Market returns for 2022

Newbury Vegan Market

On Sunday 20th February, we will be delivering the first Vegan Market of 2022 in Newbury town centre.

We’re delighted to be working with market operators Vegan Fairs Ltd once again to deliver the seasonal event for the town, which is free for visitors to attend between the hours of 10am and 3pm.

On the third Sunday of every third month, the highly anticipated markets are expected to bring in vegan (and vegan-curious) visitors from regions near and far to enjoy all things plant-based, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free.

Located in the historic town’s Market Place, an array of vegan street food, baked goods and sweet treats will be available alongside sustainable clothing brands, animal-friendly beauty products, and ethical arts and crafts stalls, joining Newbury’s already impressive list of over 30 vegan-friendly venues.

Independent eateries such as The Sushi Maki, Lusso, and The Catherine Wheel join national favourites such as Bill’s and Pizza Express to offer impressive vegan menus in the town centre, alongside vegan brunch spots at Weavers Walk Coffee Shop and The Flowerpot Café – named ‘Best Breakfast in Newbury’ on TripAdvisor. Furthermore, shops including (but not limited to) Natures Corner, Plum & Grain, Grape Tree, and Inn at Home, all boast an array of vegan-friendly products.

This month’s market will include popular ethical brands and vegan names such as No Frickin Chicken, Soy Ahoy and Stop Ya Beefin’, alongside stalls from Newbury’s very own Inn at Home and Colline’s Kitchen who as BID levy-paying businesses, are eligible for a free stand at the market courtesy of the team here at Newbury BID.

Alison Drummond, our Operations Manager, says:

With so many exciting new and existing traders signed-up to the first Newbury Vegan Market of the year, we’re confident that this will increase town centre footfall even more so than usual. It’s promising that our free vegan maps- available on the day- are already helping visitors to recognise Newbury as a go-to vegan destination, outside of market day. If we can encourage even a quarter of market attendees to return to Newbury in between specific event days, then we’re achieving our aim to support our local businesses and successfully raise Newbury’s profile.

However, as with the nature of Business Improvement Districts, we are currently in Ballot asking our levy-paying businesses to vote yes for a further five-year BID term. If we are unsuccessful in our upcoming BID Ballot, our free events - such as Newbury Vegan Market - and promotion of the town centre will end on 31st May.

To receive a “no” vote would be devasting for Newbury, as all the hard work we have done to put Newbury on the map with events and markets such as these to increase footfall back to pre-covid levels, would be lost.

We’re committed to making Newbury a great place to live, work, visit, and do business. If you run a levy-paying business, your YES vote can help to secure five more years of funding to retain the BID team and deliver events such as these. All the information you need about when and how to vote is available here.

Our next Newbury Vegan Market is already in the diary, scheduled for Sunday 15th May 2022. If we’re unsuccessful in our upcoming BID renewal ballot for a further 5-year term, this event and many others, including the popular monthly Artisan Market, won’t return.
