On Monday 3rd May, we announced the winners for this year’s NHS Heroes-themed Crafty Craft competition, and were delighted to receive 70 entries for the first-ever digital version of the event.
We encouraged residents, businesses, community groups, and schools in the area to support local NHS Heroes by creating mini rafts to raise funds for the ‘West Berkshire Community Hospital League of Friends’ charity. Donations for the event can still be made here.
We’re delighted to share that 10-year-old Scout, Olly Daniels, was awarded first place for his entry proudly presenting the late Sir Captain Tom Moore on the raft mast – who rose to fame for his NHS fundraising achievements towards the end of his life.
Similarly, runners up Felicity Hawthorne – aged 10, Jake Karasinski – aged 10, and Duria Lourence – also aged 10, were awarded fourth to second place respectively for their contributions to the NHS theme. You can watch our Crafty Craft video officially announcing the winners below:
Following on from the success of the event and the prominent desire within the community to continue to support local NHS Heroes, we’re also pleased to reveal that over 40 town centre businesses now offer special promotions and discounts exclusive to NHS employees.
Our website now features a complete list of discounts from participating businesses where NHS Heroes can access these offers upon presenting their NHS staff ID card*. You can view the page by clicking here.
Our team are also creating leaflets with information about the discount scheme to share with NHS surgeries, sites, and hospitals throughout the local area, to raise awareness of the businesses involved with the campaign.
We would like to give our special thanks to Ed Turner of The Dolphin for first suggesting the idea. Melissa Hughes, our CEO, states:
We are so pleased that Newbury is able support our NHS Heroes thanks to the goodwill and kind nature of so many of our town centre businesses and local residents. As a business community, we are grateful to each and every individual who has played a part in delivering key NHS services and care throughout this past year. Newbury’s sense of community and togetherness really sets it apart and, personally, I couldn’t wish for a better place to work and live.
