Love Local this Valentine’s

Because home is where the heart is...

As we settle into another month of ‘closed for business’, we empathise with those feelings of ‘I’ve had enough’ and ‘I’m over it’.

With Valentine’s Day creeping up on us, there is even more reason to feel a bit ‘woe is me’- and that is absolutely fine.

Let’s face it, whether you have a partner or not, there’s no better feeling then going out and exchanging gifts over some food and drinks, be it with your partner, friend or your Aunty Jane.

To help you to re-ignite the flame- albeit just a flicker- we’ve came up with some Valentine’s ideas for you right here in Newbury. So, before the weekend of Saint Valentine comes around, find some love in the local inspiration below…

Colline's Kitchen

As Colline’s Kitchen surpasses its two-year anniversary, their range of goodies has grown into flight boxes for six, family meals for four or brownie tray-bakes for two.One of their latest offerings are these yummy, Valentines-themed boxes available for two (perfect for couples), right up to a box for six (ideal for treating the whole household). Each dessert box contains chocolate-dipped strawberries, chocolate truffles and one per person of the following; luxury Red Velvet cupcakes, decadent Chocolate Mousse and Oreo Cheesecake Cookies.

Plum & Grain

In a nutshell, we’re ever so slightly obsessed with this shop! One of Newbury’s newest independents; as their product offering grows, they just keep getting better and better.

With that in mind, these marvellous eco-friendly gift sets consisting of products made here in the UK, are perfect for loved ones this Valentine’s Day. Ranging from £13.50 to £50.00, there’s a gift box to suit every budget.

At the bottom end of the price range, we have ‘The Sweet One’, which contains a hand-poured soy candle from Wax + Wolf, Coco Chocolatier chocolate (orange milk or coffee dark), and a matching postcard to add your own personalised message.

At the top end of the price range is ‘The Sleek One’, containing a larger plant-based Harpenden candle, in black fig and vetiver or bergamot and patchouli scent, a box of sea salt dark Coco Chocolatier wafer thins and a luxurious treat!

Willow and Blooms

Why not givc the traditional Valentine’s gift of flowers?

Willow and Bloom have an outstanding variety of fresh florals specific to Valentine’s. To mix it up from the usual Valentine’s roses this year, why not consider their gorgeous Tulip Vase, consisting of 30 red tulips with scented eucalyptus and wax flower, for £37?

Alternatively, prices start at just £20 for a single, delicately wrapped red rose, and go up to £240 for a large bouquet of seasonal foliage and red roses.

If you fancy sending a floral gift directly to your loved one’s door this Valentine’s, Willow and Blooms are delivering to RG14, 17, 18, 19 & 20.

The Ugly Duckling

A thoughtful gift for those who are running out of ideas to stay busy during lockdown, give the gift of pottery painting from The Ugly Duckling.

These Love Birds make a perfect therapeutic Valentine’s gift for only £12.99, including postage and the glazing and firing.

With an array of paint colours and brushes to choose from, your loved one can get truly creative decorating these cute little birds, alongside adding a sweet addition to any household.

The Ugly Duckling is open for click and collect, Wednesday-Saturday between 10am and 4pm, or their to-go boxes are available for home delivery.

137 Gin

We’re pretty sure a good bottle of something special would go down a real treat for just about anyone right now.

137 Gin have launched a delightful cocktail range that we’re certain can’t go a-miss this Valentine’s Day.

Try Ginoncello, Martini, or – our recommendation – Negroni. Choose from 137 Royal Navy Negroni for £35.95, or the 137 Bartholomew Negroni edition for £31.95. Described as the classic Italian meets best of British, 137’s version incorporates their finest Gin, Sweet Vermouth from Bramley and Sage, and the classically Italian Campari.

B The Lifestyle Shop

We don’t know if there’s a more satisfying shop for purchasing gifts than B the Lifestyle Store.

With unique present ideas, you’re bound to find something original for the person who has just about everything!

We particularly love B’s ‘The Love Box’, featuring a gloriously scented Hobo + Co. soy candle and some rather special Fruits of Nature Bath Essence (which creates a slightly milky and highly moisturising bathing experience). B also offer a range of quirky occasion cards, meaning you can purchase all of your gifts under one roof!

Available for click and collect or home delivery.
