DESCRIPTION:Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all free. \nJoin Shaw House in the Great Hall for introductory talks about the history of the House throughout the day (no need to book) and then explore the House\, exhibition rooms and our historic costume exhibition ‘Dressed for Shaw’ and the English Civil War arms and armoury exhibition ‘Dressed for Battle’. \nVisitors can also pre-book to visit to the Elizabethan bake house which was discovered during restoration and is one of the very special features of Shaw House. Public access is not usually possible due to its location below the café but during the open days you will have the chance to climb below the ground floor and discover the well preserved elements of the 16th century kitchen. \nShaw House\, café and grounds will be open from 11am – 4pm\, with talks about the history of the House throughout the day.

SUMMARY:Lines of Influence: Twentieth Century British Printmaking
DESCRIPTION:From screenprints and linocuts to wood engravings and lithographs\, this group exhibition at The Base celebrates the artists who helped shape a British print-making and graphic design aesthetic in the twentieth century. \nThe commercial output of artists will be explored\, through examples of illustrations for limited-edition books\, advertising and propaganda designs and product advertisements. DESCRIPTION:Gentle\, Angry Women is a coming-of-age documentary following the story of three young activists as they retrace the footsteps of the Greenham Common march to the original site of the 1980s Women’s Peace Camp. \nThree young women – Poppy\, Xanthe\, and Evie – embark on a journey of discovery\, following in the footsteps of over 30\,000 women who forty years earlier united in peaceful\, liberating protest\, the remarkable Greenham Common Women’s Peace Movement. \nFollowing the film’s sold-out launch in Cornwall on International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons\, Gentle\, Angry Women comes to Newbury – where the story began – with a series of screenings at Newbury Corn Exchange. \nTickets are available through the Newbury Corn Exchange website\, you can find a direct link below. \nThe final screening on Sunday 26th October takes place during Disarmament Week\, and the film director Barbara Santi will be attending the screening to host a Q&A in the Balcony Bar after the film.

DESCRIPTION:101 is a major centre for the development of outdoor arts and work for public spaces – a unique creation space on Greenham Business Park in Newbury that offers rehearsal and making space to artists from across the world every week of the year. \nIt is responsible for the spectacular outdoor programme in Newbury\, which over the last 10 years has transformed our town centre with fire\, giant puppets\, deft defying circus\, dance and more. \nIt also offers training\, internships\, workshops and volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities in West Berkshire. \nOn Tuesday 14th October\, you can book in to visit the site’s open day between 4pm and 6pm\, where you can have a look around the facilities\, explore giant puppet mechanisms\, try some circus skills\, discover what happens at 101 and find out about opportunities to get involved.
