DESCRIPTION:Newbury Town Council\, in collaboration with local partners\, is proud to announce a series of events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day)\, marking this pivotal moment in history with a programme of activities that honour those who contributed to the end of the Second World War. \nThe events\, taking place from May 8th to May 10th\, will bring the community together to remember\, reflect\, and celebrate the legacy of those who served. \nThursday May 8th: VE Day 80 Commemorations \nAt 11am\, a service will be held at Newbury’s War Memorial to pay respects to the brave individuals who fought and sacrificed for freedom. \nFair Close Day Centre will be hosting a special VE Day Celebration lunch for over 65’s. Enjoy entertainment and fish and chips to celebrate the spirit of VE Day. Booking essential on 01635 40488 or email hello@fairclosecentre.org . \nFrom 7pm\, bring a picnic and join us in Victoria Park for a Beacon Lighting ceremony. SUMMARY:VE Day Family Picnic & Activities
DESCRIPTION:Join Shaw House to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a family picnic\, trail and crafts. \nYounger visitors can collect a ration card from reception and follow a trail to find the clues\, once the card has been completed\, they can collect their sweet rations! \nThere will also be craft activities where you can decorate a crown or flag ready for the celebrations. \nThe House and exhibition rooms will be open with a special display exploring the requisition of Shaw House by the War Office in 1939 and its subsequent use as a school for displaced children. \nFamilies are welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy the grounds and the café will also be open selling light refreshments and treats. \nPlease note that the Great Hall will not be available due to a private event. \nNo need to book\, just drop-in to this free event – with thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.
