SUMMARY:Intro to Silver Jewellery Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Jeweller Sandra McArdle will give you will give you an introduction to silversmithing and the opportunity to make a set of silver stacking rings\, incorporating different textures and shapes. \nWhat to expect:\nYou will design the piece you wish to make and learn the basics of silversmithing. You will learn how to pierce (cut) silver\, anneal\, texture\, and form silver to craft your piece. You will learn to clean and polish your final piece to create something that is a joy to wear. \nThe Honesty café at the Base is a great venue where you can treat yourself for lunch with your new silversmithing friends after the workshop! \nWhat to bring/wear:\nSilversmithing can be a messy business so please wear clothes that you will be comfortable in\, aprons will be provided. Please wear closed toes shoes and ensure that hair is tied back off your face. There is close work involved in working with silver so if you use glasses\, please don’t forget them! \nA cup of tea or coffee and piece of cake are included in the price of this workshop but don’t forget your water to keep you hydrated. \nBenefits:\nYou will learn the basics of silversmithing to create a piece that you will enjoy wearing for years to come\, or to give to a loved one as a perfect gift. \nWho is your tutor:\nSilversmith Sandra McArdle’s interest in silver jewellery making started many years ago. In 2016 Sandra graduated from the London Jewellery School\, Hatton Garden\, with a Diploma in Silver Jewellery (distinction) and started Sandra McArdle Jewellery. Sandra loves working with silver and semi precious stones to create an object of beauty. She is inspired by the way silver changes and responds as it’s worked on to create that final piece and to be part of that process is so rewarding.

DESCRIPTION:Learn the art of embossing onto foil with sculptor Flora Gare. \nYou will design your own butterfly wreath by tracing templates\, scoring and cutting the foil to attach to a copper ring. \nFlora is a sculptor inspired by the natural world. She uses copper wire to draw in space\, making delicate sculptures and wall based pieces that contrast the line of wire with the colour and fluidity of ink. \nWhat to expect: This is a great introduction to work working with wire. Guided by Flora\, you will explore handing wire and metal foil to design your own wreath. Using templates\, you will learn how to scoring\, cut and emboss the foil to attached to a copper ring that will create your butterfly wreath to take home. \nWhat to bring/wear: All materials provided. Bring a pair of pliers if you have them to hand. \nBenefits: Wire is a malleable and diverse material that allows you to experiment with different forms and shapes in a creative and spontaneous way. Being lightweight and durable\, it is a rewarding craft that you can grow and develop if you wish to explore you explore the medium further.

DESCRIPTION:A great introduction to willow sculpture with Judith Needham. \nIn this class you will make a beautiful two-dimensional sculpture of a swift to hang on the wall. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience \nWhat to expect: In this 2.5 hour class you will make a beautiful two-dimensional sculpture of a swift to hang on the wall. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience\, Judith will give you an introduction to willow weaving. You will learn how to create the willow frame along with weaving techniques to bring your swift to life. \nWhat to bring/wear: All materials are included. \nBenefits: In this workshop you will be learning the traditional craft of willow weaving which not only creates a lasting functional or decorative item for you to take home to enjoy\, it also helps promote and celebrate this ancient heritage craft. As a hands on workshop\, working with this natural material is a great creative work out for your hands! \nAbout the artist: Judith Needham is a basket maker and willow weaver based in Farnham\, Surrey – England’s Craft Town. Judith specialises in woven willow playhouses but I also make baskets and teach basket making and willow sculpture. Judith enjoys passing on her skills through teaching workshops to adults and children at various venues across Surrey and Hampshire.
