What is a BID?

A Business Improvement District “BID” is a precisely defined geographical area within which the businesses have voted to invest collectively in local improvements to enhance their trading environment.

A BID is initiated, financed and led by the commercial sector, providing additional or improved services as identified and requested by local businesses, to the baseline services provided by the local authority in that area.

How is the BID funded?

All businesses within the BID area pay a set levy. This money is used to pay for the services and improvements that the BID provides.

What is the role of the Street Rangers?

The Newbury BID Street Rangers primary aim is an ambassadorial role within the Town Centre, they will be the welcome hosts to the Town. For example, they will deal with public facing enquiries giving advice as to where the public can find specific shops or visitor attractions. Their presence will have a positive visual impact in the town by ensuring that antisocial behaviour, such as street drinking and aggressive begging is prevented.

What areas are available to book in the Town Centre?

There are different locations available to book for promotional events in the Town Centre and these are:

  • Broadway (outside clock tower)
  • Northbrook Street (four locations)
  • Market Place
  • Bartholomew Street (pedestrianised Zone)
  • Victoria Park
